When: June 25-27 2009 Place: Traces on the Cumberland, Burkesville, KY (about a 2 ˝ hr drive from Louisville) Outing Coordinator: Scott DeWees scott@derbycityflyfishers.com Number of spots: 12 Equipment: 4-6 wt rods; sinking line preferred but wt forward floating lines ok. #6-10Wooley buggers #8-14 nymphs #10-12 beadhead cracklebacks Misc other streamers Important Notes: This is going to be a boating trip based out of Burkesville, KY. We will launch at the ramp in Burkesville and travel up and downstream to various fishing locations. If you do not have a boat make certain you secure a seat with someone going on the trip. If you have a boat and have room for an extra person, please let Gerry know. In regards to lodging, many of the members are staying at Traces On the Cumberland, the Riverfront Hotel, and others at the Dale Hollow Lake state park. There are camping opportunities at the state park if you would rather camp. Please consider the information below. The Cumberland River can change it's flow and elevation in a matter of hours, thus the fishing has to be adapted to the conditions at hand. The best case scenario is that we don't have much rain (to raise the lake and increase river flow) prior to this outing. In this case, we can "ferry' people to wading areas. If the water is high we will have to fish from water craft, and if it's too high the trip is off. If we have to fish from water craft you will need to be a rather accomplished fly fisherman. On the subject of water craft, as related below, boats are available for rental; others have their own craft. It will be your responsibility to secure a craft and/or a buddy. If the river is up, Traces has boats to rent. You can follow other experienced members up the river but you have to know how to operate an outboard powered boat. Outing Details: This trip will be modified consistent with river conditions as we approach mid June. Potential low generation/river flow should mean excellent wading. However, if the water is high we will use boats, canoes, pontoons as appropriate. Wading areas will be accessible by boat with some "walk-in" opportunities.
Note, all of those wishing to participate in this outing, or any other Derby City Fly Fishing outing, must be members of Derby City Fly Fishers. |
