Fly Tying

Velcro Fly
by Jack Miller

HOOK : Mustad 3366 Size 6

THREAD : Black

TAIL: Black Marabou

BODY : 1/2" Velcro Coin

WEIGHT: .030 lead wire

EYES: Stick on holographic eye

Start thread at the front of the hook and wind back to where the bend of the hook starts. Wind on the lead wire and then wrap your thread to the front of the hook and back to secure the wire to the hook. At this point bring your thread to the middle of the hook, tie in the marabou, and trim the excess. You want your tail to be about 3 to 4 times the length of the hook shank. Once you have secured the marabou, whip finish and cut the thread. The last step is to simply fold the velcro coin around the hook shank from the bottom of the hook. You may also want to use some superglue to securely hold the velcro together. Finish off with a silver eye on each side using superglue to hold them on.

This simple fly can be tied in any baitfish colors using marabou, craft fur, or other materials.
